Shanghai Normal University (SHNU), established in 1954, is a key institution in Shanghai. It is a comprehensive local university renowned for its distinctive teacher training features and remarkable strength in liberal arts.
Campus and Infrastructure
SHNU has two main campuses, namely Xuhui Campus and Fengxian Campus. The campuses cover an area of over 1.53 million square meters, with a floor area of 650,000 square meters. It houses a unique lab center, a well – equipped gymnasium, and a library boasting a collection of more than 3 million books, providing students with abundant learning resources.
Academic Disciplines
The university offers a wide range of academic programs. There are 93 undergraduate disciplines related to 11 major subjects, spanning philosophy, literature, pedagogy, history, law, economics, management theory, mathematics, engineering, agriculture, and more. SHNU also has 6 primary disciplines and 46 secondary disciplines for doctoral degree programs, 9 mobile post – doctoral research centers, and 203 master’s degree programs. Some of its disciplines, such as Chinese language and literature, history, philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy, are highly influential in the academic circle.
International Exchanges
SHNU has established cooperation and exchange relationships with 311 universities and cultural and academic institutions in 40 countries and regions. It has 10 Chinese – foreign cooperatively – run degree programs in collaboration with universities from the USA, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, and France. For instance, it offers dual – degree programs with the University of Dayton, Colorado State University, and other American institutions.
