Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT) is a public university in Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi province in China. It was founded in 1902 as the Western Learning School of National Shanxi Grand Academy, one of the earliest modern universities in China that introduced western technologies and education. It was renamed Taiyuan University of Technology in 1958, and became one of the national “Double First-class” key universities, one of the national “Project 211” key universities, and one of the provincial “Double First-class” key universities.

TYUT has four campuses in Taiyuan, covering an area of about 213 hectares, with modern facilities and abundant greenery. The main campus, located in the south of the city, is known for its beautiful scenery and Lingnan-style architecture. The other campuses are the North Campus, the East Campus, and the New Campus. TYUT has 23 schools and departments, offering 84 undergraduate programs, 34 master’s degree programs, 15 doctorate programs and 13 post-doctor research centers. These programs cover nine discipline categories, such as economics, philosophy, the science of law, literature, history, science, engineering and others, with a total of 10 academic disciplines. TYUT has a strong faculty team of over 3,500 members, including 2,200 full-time teachers, 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 244 doctoral supervisors and 1,200 teachers with senior professional and technical titles. TYUT also has a large student body of over 40,000 students, including 31,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduates.

TYUT has achieved remarkable results in scientific research and social service. It has undertaken over 1,000 scientific research projects at various levels, published over 4,000 academic papers and 100 books, and obtained over 200 patents and awards. TYUT has also established extensive cooperation and exchange with over 40 universities and institutions from more than 20 countries and regions, such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, and Hong Kong. TYUT has also cultivated many outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions to various fields of society, such as Feng Lixiang, a mathematician and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liang Bin, a physicist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Wang An, a computer scientist and entrepreneur.

TYUT has a rich and vibrant campus life, with various student organizations and activities that cater for different interests and specialties, ranging from science and technology to art, culture and sport. TYUT also has a well-equipped library, a sports center, a student center, a cafeteria, and a dormitory, providing students with a comfortable and convenient living and learning environment.
